Reaction/Response about Harrison Bergeron by Sujin 8B The story, "Harrison Bergeron" was written by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. and in the story, everyone is equal in every which way. Personally, this story didn't end up the way I expected because Harrison and the ballerina got shot at the end and it ended with Hazel Bergeron forgetting about what she was crying about, which was her son being killed on TV and she ends up thinking it was a just random sad TV show. However, I really enjoyed reading this story as it had deep meanings about equality and teachings behind it. It made me realize the importance of competition in the world. To think about it, there wouldn't be any improvement if there wasn't any competition, so being unique as an individual and having different strengths is what makes us different and we shouldn't be weighed down by others who have different qualities/strengths.  After reading this story, my perspective about equality completely changed. in t...

Science Fiction and Our Culture by SuJin Kim 8B After reading "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury and "The Lottery" (1948) by Shirley Jackson, there are few things we can relate to and we can relate some of them to ourselves. To start with the story "All Summer in a Day", Margot gets left behind by all the other children and they are mistreating her because she is different to all of them and they are jealous. This example can be reflected by us since we sometimes forget about that one specific person when we are either too hyped up or mad. Moreover, mistreating happens a lot especially when we get jealous of someone. To move on, in "The Lottery", it has a shocking ending as it's very cruel and unexpected because Tessie gets stoned by the villagers when she gets a paper with a black dot.
